These delicious items were created during the Egyptian revival period in the 1900s - 1920's to be worn alone against the performers bare skin and were highly favoured by Burlesque Dancers.
This particular item was part of a private collection belonging to a member of the Paris Follies of this time.
Overall the item is of considerable weight.
It is a shoulder cape, in style, constructed from gossamer fine black silk net with appliqué panels and areas of jet bead works applied over.
The points of the edges hang loosely, to give a daring glimpse of the wearers bodice.
The bead design is complete, and the silk net is without holes,
This is such a wonderful item, unique and completely genuine, no one will have another quite like this one as I'm informed that it was specifically made and given as a gift.
It's been worn, but shows no signs of this.
Overall it's been well used with great care and stored since approximately the early 1930s. The measurements were taken when the garment was laid flat and relaxed.
Front Length; 12.5”
Length of tassels; 10”
Back Length; 14”
The garment has been shown in natural light for clarity and is completely untouched digitally.
This item is from private heirloom collection.
All garments are dry cleaned prior to listing, unless otherwise stated.
