Stunning Antique very early 1800s Linen Bonnet hand sewn from a hand loomed heavy linen and possibly worn by farm maids as a sun bonnet.
Originating from a workhouse in Leeds Yorkshire and being made by French settlers.
One Size-Adult;
Approx 11” from middle of the forehead to tip of lappet where the ties are. (22”)
7.5” wide from rear back of the neck cord to chin. (15”)
The linen ties are 10” long.
Please remember that ladies on the whole were much smaller during the 19th century, but despite this the cap does sit perfectly on our modern display head. There are two cord ties, to pull the cap in, and these are across the crown.
The item is part of a Private heirloom collection, it’s been very well stored throughout and has received a professional clean to brighten and freshen.
The fabric has been shown in natural light for clarity and is completely untouched digitally. The date is appropriate as I was informed at the time I obtained the item.
