Stunning 1955 Brixton Picnic Case or Hamper. Lovely condition with gentle signs of wear to the outside. Perfect for summer picnics, retro days out at the seaside or cutting a look at the races and Goodwood.
The case consists of;
2 x Thermos Flasks
4 x Tea Plates marked on the back with the Brixton Stamp. Cottage Rose print.
4 x Cups - Stamped
4 x Saucers - Stamped
4 x Knives- Stamped
4 x Folks
4 x Tea Spoons
2 x Bacalite Food boxes, stamped on the lid. Cream Base Blue Lid
1 x Bacalite Salt pot.
1 x Bacalite Pepper pot.
This gorgeous item is quite rare as there are two brass air vents, one to the front and one at the back. It stands upon four half round brass studs, one at each corner. The handle is a cream leather grained Bacalite, the hinges at the back and the locks are all brass too.
Please note that there is a tea plate missing, which has been replaced and that one of the tea cups has a repaired crack.
The hamper is constructed from wood, which has been covered in a wipeable blue and cream mottled linoleum to the outside and a cream leather grained linoleum to the inside. All the securing straps are leather and the closing popper studs are very firm. The cup holder is in exceptional condition. The cups to the flasks are, unfortunately missing.
The item was recently under the ownership of a large country estate.
