Stunning 1910 Art Nouveau tapestry handbag with square hinge.
Lined with coffee silk and silk rope detailing edged with pink rosebuds at the trim. Inside there are two dolly pockets for lipsticks & keys et cetera. This was given to me around 1970 and is a family heirloom.
Originating in France, my relative was based in Paris, more than likely it was made in this city as she lived there from 1900 to 1960.
It was unused when I received it, and I have never used it at all. The fabric is firm without odour, holes or age marks, the silk lining is in the same enviable condition and the silk rosebuds are complete. There is no tarnish to the metal work and this shows that it was a very good quality product when you and probably handmade.
The hinges at the top opening are in excellent condition and are still very firm, as is the fold over clip.
The size is 8 inches deep approximately and 11 inches wide.
