Rare and quite exquisite.
Completely unworn dowry item of underwear.
Created in 1910, for a daughters trousseau, it has been completely hand stitched in the most finest silk thread, from the seams, and the hems right up to the buttonholes, it has been made with love by the young ladies mother, grandmother and aunties. They all had some input into this and other garments that I’m selling today.
New ribbons were added in the 1950s, when it was laundered and then stored away again,.
I have hand laundered the garment, and given it a very light glazing using a number seven flat iron.
Guide side 12/14
Shoulder to waist 16 inches
Shoulder to the bottom of the peplum is 20 inches, the Peplin is 4 inches deep, the waistband is 1.5 inches deep Underarm to underarm 42 inches
Under bust 40 inches
Across the shoulders, 18 inches
The width of the arm hole is 18 inches this is when it is fully let out with the ribbon undone.
The peplum is split to the back and is also split to the front. This was for ease if the young lady wished to wear a corset, but at the time that this item was made, corsets were not fashionable as the fashion was for a more athletic look.
Today it is the most desirable and beautiful under corset chemise, chemisette or camisole.
This would look absolutely knockout worn with jeans, shorts or even under a beautiful tailored City suit.
