Fabulous, stylish and genuine unworn vintage silk mix kimono from about the late 1950s
As with traditional yakata, it’s been made from a very good quality fabric hand printed in the Art Deco style onto fabric which is clean and crisp.
Huge floral designs intertwined with abstract designs which have a gold overlay adorn the fabric, whilst the lining is in a cream and black silk mix. Usually these garments are never lined, this is an exception and was probably made for the western market.
Traditionally they are worn open and do not come with an Obi, that’s the belt, as these are usually purchased separately if required.
These garments are never machine stitched, but are completely hand sewn as this one is. The stitching is exceptionally good and without damage or pulls, although there are some slight print marks to the fabric. There are also some stitching marks/holes to the white section of the lining, but these are really faint-please see photos
Freshly dry cleaned (July 2020) and is ready to wear.
This garment doesn’t have a size label, so I have given the following measurements taken seam to seam.
Sleeve edge of Sleeve edge; 48”
Sleeve length; 25”
Underarm to underarm; 44”
The above measurements were taken with the left side folded over the right.
The item has been shown in natural light for clarity and is completely untouched digitally.
All proceeds from the sale of this garment will be donated to charity.
