Victorian Pure Silk Canton Manton De Manila Piano and Bustle Shawl.
Dated 1891.
Hand Embroidered in the most exquisite Silk thread in Vibrant and iridescent jewel colours, all executed in the forbidden stitch. The shawl has been kept within an estates heirloom private collection and carefully stored in a linen chest since just after it was created.
It was last worn in 1923 for a wedding and then stored.
The silk is from my own heirloom collection-provenance can be confirmed as to the fabric and hand embroidery
Although very beautiful it does show distinct signs of her age.
There is a storage mark, where the black silk has faded, and there are some fine pin holes too.
The corners are rounded, expertly finished on all edges, with a hand knotted Macrame top and long silk fringe
