Rare Victorian Ladies Suit dating from 1897.
Purchased for a going away trip but never worn. Stored since December 1897. The suit comes complete with bonnet.

Victorian ladies virgin wool suit in buttermilk
The Skirt is meant to have a bustle otherwise it will have a fishtail appearance, it’s in stunning condition overall, with only slight dust marks please see photographs The skirt itself has a peplum waist with two ruffles at the hip and with a box pleated back which has an off centre fastening of press studs.
Internally there is provision for a very light bustle.
The jacket closes off centre with two large hand turned mother of Pearl buttons and once again there are two layers of Peplum detailing at the hip, with wool covered brass buttons at the waist, at the cuff and also at the hip of the jacket
To the back of the jacket is a panel of hand embroidery this is carried through to the front of the jacket lapel which has the very same type of embroidery and decoration. The top placket has a covering of bronze silk tulle.
